Chemical Properties of Oxides of Aluminium

Aluminium oxide is also an odourless, nontoxic, and highly resistant compound. Despite its strength, it is also an electrical insulator. Moreover, its ability to withstand heat is useful in building high-temperature appliances.

Corundum, the crystalline form of aluminium oxide, is the most common type of aluminum oxide. It is commonly found in igneous rocks. It has a trigonal Bravais lattice, and the alternating layers of Al and O ions create a hexagonally close-packed structure.
